Account information (via social sign-in):

• Email address
• Profile picture

Profile information you add:

• Username
• Bio
• Website URL
• Social links (Twitter/X, LinkedIn, GitHub)

Product submissions:

• Product name, tagline, and description
• Website URL
• Logo and product images
• Categories
• Pricing type (free, freemium, paid)
• Launch date

Activity data:

• Votes you cast on products
• Comments you post
• Categories you follow
• Newsletter subscription and preferences
• Notification preferences

2. How We Use Your Information

• Display your public profile to other users
• Show your submitted products on the platform
• Calculate and display product rankings based on votes
• Send email notifications when someone comments on your products or replies to you (based on your settings)
• Send our weekly newsletter with top products (if you're subscribed)
• Maintain platform integrity and prevent abuse

3. What's Public

The following information is visible to all ShipIt users:

• Your profile (name, avatar, bio, website, social links)
• Products you've submitted
• Comments you've posted

Your email address is never shared publicly.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following services to operate ShipIt:

• Firebase - Authentication and database storage (Google Cloud)
• Vercel - Website hosting
• Resend - Sending emails (notifications and newsletters)

We do not sell your data. We do not use advertising networks or analytics tracking services.

5. Cookies and Local Storage

We use:

• Session cookies - To keep you logged in
• Local storage - To remember your theme preference (light/dark mode)

We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile and personal data are removed. Products and comments you've submitted may be retained but will no longer be associated with your identity.

7. Your Controls

You can:

• Edit your profile information at any time
• Edit or delete your submitted products
• Delete your comments
• Unsubscribe from the newsletter
• Change which email notifications you receive in Settings
• Delete your entire account in Settings (requires typing "DELETE" to confirm)

8. Security

We use Firebase for authentication and data storage, which provides industry-standard security including encryption in transit and at rest. Access to the database is restricted by security rules that ensure users can only access appropriate data.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
